Mildred Vice Dunn
Millie died at home in Cary, North Carolina under hospice care on Sunday, September 22, 2019 after a sudden illness. She was born in Ogdensburg, New York and following the death of her father in 1940 she moved with her mother and siblings to Nyack. She graduated from Nyack High School in 1955, and from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. She married the love of her life, David Joseph Dunn in 1959, and they were planning to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in November. From 1959 to 1985, Millie and David, a career USAF officer, travelled the world. She served her country during war and peace as a dedicated and supportive spouse, relocating her family and reestablishing a household through twenty-two government-sponsored relocations. As a registered nurse, Millie extended the same exceptional care provided to her patients to her family and friends over the years. Millie deeply loved her family, and she excelled in the art of homemaking where her many talents shined with her decorating, cooking, entertaining, sewing, and ceramics skills. She was a brave, strong, sensitive woman with a witty sense of humor and infectious laugh that will be missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband David, son Michael, and daughter Sharon, as well as many extended family members. In accordance with Millie's wishes she will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Alzheimer's Association.
