Bob Bernstein

Dr. Bertram Bernstein Obituary

Rhinebeck - Dr. Bertram “Bob” Henry Bernstein, 87, passed away on February 27, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones.  Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and physician.

Born to Dorothy and David Bernstein on April 14, 1937, in Nyack, New York, Bob attended Bard College on a full academic scholarship before earning his medical degree, also on an academic scholarship, from New York Medical College in 1963.  He completed his residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, during which he also served in the Army Medical Corps. While continuing his work as an attending physician at Lenox Hill, Bob established a successful private practice in New York City, where he cared for many patients who adored him, including numerous professional sports athletes who played on the New York Rangers, New York Yankees and Mets.

During this time, he met Linda, a nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital. They married in 1977, building a beautiful life together as partners in both medicine and family.  After enjoying 35 years practicing medicine, Bob retired with his wife to Rhinebeck, where he found a community of wonderful friends and enjoyed his later years surrounded by the family and lifestyle he loved. In Rhinebeck, he cherished riding his bike, sitting in the sun, collecting comic books, and conquering the New York Times’ crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; his children, Adam (and Laura), Brad (and Annette) and Scott (and Marcia); and his grandchildren, Matthew, Alec, Jared and Nikki. Bob was predeceased by his brother Jerome.

His wisdom, strength, and kind sense of humor will live on through those who loved him.

No formal services will be held.
