(Obituary as appeared on Hannemann Funeral Home website.)

Robert “Bob” Mock

Robert Henry Mock, Bob, was born to Ruth Griffin Mock and J. Henry Mock on February 27, 1937 in Nyack, New York, a beautiful old Revolutionary War village on the Hudson River. He went through the public school system there and graduated in 1955 from Nyack High School as a star athlete, lettering in basketball and soccer. He was also involved with golf, tennis and many other similar activities. He also served as Vice President of his class.

He went on to Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, New York where he met his future wife, Marjorie Stine. They were married in January of 1963. Bob was at that time serving in the Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and he received an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. During this time, Debby was born.

In May of 1965, Bob began his long career with IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where he was a computer operator and programmer in the early days of technology. During these years, David and Donna were born.

In 1975, he was transferred to Iowa where he was a Systems Engineer in the Des Moines Branch Office, seeing accounts all through the north to south of the state along I 35 through the beautiful Iowa farm country. He was very involved as a bowler and established a league for youth, whom he coached. He also loved to play golf.

A big change happened in his life at nearly age 40 when he attended a Cursillo, in Bettendorf, Iowa. This is a Christian renewal retreat weekend movemenet, also known as Via de Cristo, Walk to Emmaus, Tres Dias, and other names. He had known for years that there was something missing in his spiritual life, and he gave his life to the Lord on that weekend. That was literally life changing !! After that he served on many weekends in Iowa for others to attend, sharing his journey with the Lord. He was then called to begin teaching adult Sunday School classes at Zion Lutheran Church, in addition to the leadership roles he held, including Congregational Chairman.

In the autumn of 1989, he and Marge moved to Texas to begin a new chapter with IBM as an instructor at the IBM Education Center in Las Colinas, where he finished his career with IBM. They built a house in Grapevine, where he lived until his unexpected death on February 7, 2021. He and Marge plugged into the Lutheran Via de Cristo movement in the metroplex and began serving. Bob was asked to serve on many weekends, beginning with #13 and he finally led one on #86. He has also been very active over nearly thirty years at Bedford Methodist as an adult Sunday School teacher and also serving in leadership roles. He also had established an email prayer ministry, which brought him joy and encouraged his community.

Bob loved his family and he prayed for each one by name, daily. We will all miss him greatly, but thankfully we know that we will see him again in heaven !!

His is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marge Mock; sister Sally Ann Mock of Nyack, New York; daughter Debby Miller and husband Don Miller, granddaughters Emily Miller and Abby Miller, and grandson Josh Miller of Richardson, Texas; son David Mock and fiancee Sandi Schroeder of Ankeny, Iowa, grandsons Tyler Mock and wife Erin of East Lansing, MI and Jacob and wife Jenn of Ankeny, Iowa; and daughter Donna Mock of Dallas , Texas.

A service in his memory will be held on February 20 at 2:00 at Bedford Methodist in Bedford, Texas. His ashes will be buried in the family plot in Nyack at a later date.
