Obituary for Courtney Smith
1938-2015
Courtney F. Smith was born February 10, 1938 in Manhattan, NY to Daniel and Corrinne F. Smith. He passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in Nyack, NY. At an early age he moved with his parents to Nyack, NY, where he attended and graduated from the Nyack Public Schools in 1956. In his early years he was a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office. For over 20 years, he was employed by American Cyanamid-Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY. Courtney also served as a dedicated member of the South Nyack Police Department for 23 years, before retiring in1989. He was a member of the Rockland County P.B.A. and a past member of the Westchester/Rockland Guardians Association.
Courtney is predeceased by his parents and a son, Kevin Smith, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Mary of Nyack; five sons, Lonnie (Vanessa) of Chester, Va., Gregory of Spring Valley, NY, Mark (Gwendolyn) of Spring Valley, NY, Dana of Congers, NY, David (Stephanie) of Spring Valley, NY; a daughter, Diahann (Jeffery) Roberts of Spring Valley, NY; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two Brothers in-law, Lenox (Mary) Sullivan of Carneghan, Ga., Moses (Carletha)Sullivan of Townsend, Ga.; three Sisters in-law, Barbara Smith and Lonnie Taylor of Carneghan, Ga. and Rose Etta Gibson of Darien, Ga; beloved cousins James (Barbara) of Charlotte, NC, Shirley Phelps of San Diego, Ca. and Benjamin Jenkins of Alameda, Ca. and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viewing Friday 6:00-9:00 PM, Saturday, September 11, 2015 from 8:30-10:00 AM, and Home Going Services at 10:00 A.M. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 80 North Franklin Street, Nyack 10960. Interment at Brick Church Cemetery.
