Then...      and      Now

College Highlights - I spent the first two years at Russell Sage College for Women. In my second year, my roommate was Helene 'Ginger' Neuman Stoltze. I transferred and finished up with a B.A. Degree from New York University (NYU) School of Commerce. I lived in the dorm for women in Greenwich Village and had a wonderful experience going to school in "the city".

Marriage, Family, and Career Highlights - I worked briefly as a buyer for women's clothing in a buying office in New York City.

I was married to David Bash in 1961 and promptly moved to Hamden, Connecticut where I raised three children. Alison, born in 1962, is the Human Resource Manager for Weiss, Peck and Greer, a financial investment firm in New York City. Alison is married to Michael Oxman, an attorney, also in New York City. Alison graduated from SUNY Binghamton.

My son David, born in 1963, is the president of his own Graphic Design Studio in Suffern, NY. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He is married to Lauren, a speech therapist. They have one daughter, Brooke, who is one year old.

My daughter Susan, born in 1970, has her Master's in Social Work and is working for the Renfrew Foundation in Philadelphia, PA. Her undergraduate degree is from Ithaca College and her graduate degree is from Yeshiva University.

I spent many years raising our children and dabbled in the retail field doing part-time work.

Unfortunately, my husband died suddenly about 10 years ago and I've been back to work full-time - again in Retail! I am the Men's Wear Specialist at Bloomingdale's, Hackensack, NJ. I guess my love for working with the public stems from working in my parent's store, "Jean's Millinery", for many years. Hats and gloves were a big thing back then!

I still live in our home in New City (we moved back to Rockland County several years ago) and love when my kids come home to visit.

Fond Memories - I have wonderful memories of Nyack High School in the "Fifties" - the football games, the friends such as Margie, Honey, Connie, Alison, and so many others with great fondness. I remember the meetings at the "Y" on Monday nights and running home to see "I Love Lucy"!

I remember dating Jamie MacArthur during high school and going to his home with all the other kids. Looking back, growing up in Nyack was a wonderful time - simple yet elegant. Our lives were rich with everyday experiences!!

Interests - Reading, movies and the theater, seeing family and friends are my greatest interests.

Future Plans - If and when I retire it will probably be to Florida where my brother, Marvin Waldman, lives. I attended his 50th high school reunion in June. It was a blast to see his old friends! I still love to go to Nyack and walk around. It is still a piece of Americana!

2005 Update

After one major surgery and a herniated disc problem which incapacitated me nearly all this year, I am starting back to Bloomingdale’s in September.

The most important thing is that I have added two grandchildren.

My older daughter Alison is currently the Director of Human Resources at St. Barnabus Hospital in Livingston, NJ. Her older son, Daniel, is four years old and Nathan was born on August 5, 2005. Her husband, Michael Oxman, is an attorney who works for a law firm also in Livingston, NJ. They now live in South Orange, NJ.

My son, David, moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his family four years ago. He is still a graphic designer, but developed a love of building – for which he designs furniture in his private hours. His daughter, Brooke, is now 5 ½ and just started Kindergarten.

My young daughter, Susan, is currently the Social Worker/Therapist for the Jewish Family and Children’s Services in Philadelphia, PA. She still lives in the beautiful suburbs of “Philly”.

I am a widow of almost 15 years. I am now just thinking of moving from my home of 35 years. A “condo” seems to be in the future, either in Nyack or a part of New Jersey near the Ramapo Mountains – very beautiful!

My brother, Marvin, and I attended his 55th high school reunion at a campsite in Pomona, NY. I was able to visit with his old buddies, such as Bill Van Wych and Mike Longuil. What fun!

I am looking forward to my 50th reunion although as I write this it is almost impossible to believe!!

I still love Nyack and still show it off whenever friends come up from the city. We love to go to the River Club for Sunday Brunch. I attend many performances at Elmwood Playhouse or go over to the Helen Hayes Theater to enjoy the shows.

The view from the shore of Nyack is still a breathtaking sight!
